A wedding at Mellon Udrigle Beach in the Scottish Highlands

Caitlin and Lewis visited Mellon Udrigle Beach in Wester Ross many years ago with their beloved dog, Lilo, and fell in love with the place. So, it felt even more special that they made their life promises to each other in this stunning location with Lilo’s brother, Stitch, and an intimate gathering of their dearest family as their witnesses.

Their May wedding day was blessed with sunlit warmth and epic views. We gathered in a sheltered spot overlooking the white sandy bay where there is a natural rocky promontory. As their piper played rousing Highland songs, Caitlin walked through the dunes, accompanied by her dad, to where Lewis was waiting.

We began the ceremony with a ring blessing and Oathing Stone ritual. As the romantic sounds of Skye Boat Song echoed across the bay, Lewis and Caitlin held their Oathing Stone between their joined hands and reflected on all that had brought them to this place and this moment.

During this grounding pause, their rings were passed among the gathering. Each person was invited to hold Lewis and Caitlin’s wedding bands, in their hands or close to their heart, and imbue in the rings any private thoughts, wishes, or blessings that they wish to give to them both.

We heard stories of Caitlin and Lewis’ time together.  How they both felt such a deep sense of belonging in each other’s company that within just two weeks of meeting each other, they had moved in together.

They bonded over their similar outlook on life, shared values and interests. It was clear to them both that they had been brought up in a familiar way; to enjoy and appreciate the important things in life. Caitlin’s family experiencing nature through sailing holidays and Lewis’ family heading out into the wilds in their converted minibus. And discovering that both their families shared a devotion to motorcycling!

You’ve motorcyled around Sardinia together, explored the beautiful coasts on two wheels with the exhilarating breeze in your faces. You have spent countless days and weeks on the road in your van, enjoying the beautiful Outer Hebrides – your favourite trip with Lilo. Running in the fresh, white sands. That feeling of complete freedom and adventure. You both dream of many more adventures together.

Family is really important to Lewis and Caitlin and it felt important that their parents share some words of wisdom and give their blessings to them both for their shared future.

We spoke about the commitment that Caitlin and Lewis were choosing to make to one another. How they already felt as though they were married; how declaring their love and making their life promises was an affirmation of all that they have shared and are promising to share in their lives going forward. Marriage is the natural declaration of their love to each other, their families, to the world.

Caitlin, when Lewis proposed in May last year on a trip to Islay, it wasn’t unexpected but it was a lovely surprise. Of course, there had been some hints from the parents and Caitlin, you had certainly made clear for several years that if Lewis were to ask you, you wouldn’t say no!

Even so, when you walked the narrow, stony path to the Carraig Fhada Lighthouse together, with the sea lapping on either side of you, and the skies clear and bright, and Lewis got down on one knee, holding out the beautiful ring that had belonged to his grandmother, and asked you to marry him, you were overjoyed.

Caitlin and Lewis shared personal words and vows with each other before gifting each other their rings. They sealed their Marriage Vows a kiss to the heartfelt cheers and applause of their dear family.

We closed the ceremony with a Quaich ritual; Caitlin and Lewis toasting their future together as we all wished them well.

May you have many wonderful adventures in the years to come, vamping and motorcycling your way around the world, with all the love and happiness you could wish for.
